Daily schedule for sittings

Welcome. The Centre is currently closed because of the Covid-19 lockdown but all sittings are continuing, with Sensei and members of the sangha all sitting at home (separately, in their own homes). All sittings are live-streamed on Mixlr, and anyone is welcome to join us on Mixlr and sit with us. For more information see our page on Live streaming and podcasts.

Mornings

Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00 - 7:15 a.m.
Two 30-minute rounds of zazen (ending at 7:00), followed by a brief chanting service, the four vows and three prostrations.

Wednesdays & Fridays 6:00 - 7:00 a.m.
Informal sitting, no bell to start, two bells to mark the end the sit.

Sundays 8:30-10:30 a.m. 

Three 35-minute rounds of zazen with kinhin. Ends with the four vows and three prostrations.

Midday

          Tuesday through Friday 12 noon - 12.50 p.m.
           Informal sitting, no bell to start, two bells to mark the end the sit.

Evenings

Tuesdays 7:00-8:45 p.m.
Three different formats are used on Tuesday nights currently:
  • Three 25-minute rounds of zazen with kinhin. After the third round there is a short chanting service.
  • OR two 25-minute rounds of zazen followed by a Zoom cup of tea and catch-up. Check our Friday updates or contact the Centre (info@aucklandzen.org.nz) if you want to take part in the Zoom video catch-up.
  • OR one 25-minute round of zazen with kinhin followed by a teisho (talk) from Sensei.
Thursdays 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Three 35-minute rounds of zazen with kinhin. Ends with the four vows and three prostrations.

  • Sensei is offering Skype or telephone dokusan twice a week during the lockdown. On Wednesday mornings Sensei is available to talk with sangha living outside of Auckland and on Friday morning Sensei is available to talk to Auckland sangha. Email her directly to book a dokusan time.
  • All daily sittings are offered in a spirit of dana (that is, they are freely given to and for all). A donation is appreciated to help keep the Centre running for everyone, but is not required. See our membership page if you would like to contribute to the Centre regularly.
