A Guide to how AZC operates at different Covid-19 Alert Levels

Update 18 February 2021

At Alert Level 1 the Centre is open

The Centre is open and all our usual sittings are held in person at the Centre (and audio streamed as usual). No bookings are required. Please do continue to scan in or sign in, and continue with good Covid-19 hygiene.

Basic guidelines for staff, customers and members using or visiting the Centre at Level 1 :

  • You shouldn’t visit the Centre if you have cold or flu-like symptoms.
  • You shouldn’t visit the Centre if you need to be in isolation for any reason.
  • Wash hands thoroughly and often and practice good COVID hygiene
    • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or cover your mouth with a tissue
    • Put any used tissues in the bin or a bag immediately. Then wash or disinfect your hands.
    • Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.

At Alert Level 1 the Centre will ensure that:

  • Shared surfaces are regularly cleaned.
  • Soap and paper towels provided in the bathrooms and kitchen for hand washing and drying.
  • Hand sanitiser is provided in the foyer for people coming in.
  • Up-to-date health advice is provided around the Centre.
  • The NZ COVID Tracer QR code poster is displayed and paper contact-tracing forms are available for use at the Centre.

At Alert Level 2 the Centre is open with additional precautions
In addition to Level 1 measures, during Level 2 we are encourage to maintain 1 m physical distancing where possible.

Additional measures in place for sitting at the Centre during Level 2:

Physical distancing:

  • Cushions in the zendo and dokusan room are placed 1 m apart

  • Try to keep 1 metre apart from each other as much as possible

Reducing transmission risk:

  • Use of robes discontinued

  • Standing bows only (no prostrations)

Strengthening contact tracing:
  • Attendance at all sittings will be recorded (in addition to usual scan-in/sign-in)

At Alert Levels 3 and 4, the Centre is closed, in line with Government requirements.

The focus for staff and Trustees at Alert Levels 3 and 4 is on providing ongoing support for Sangha through on-line content, Facebook, regular email updates and individual contact by phone or Skype.

Streamed sittings: Sensei and Sangha members continue to hold all scheduled formal sittings (separately, each at home) and will be streaming all formal sittings on Mixlr. Anyone with internet access can click on the Mixlr link at the scheduled time to hear the sitting.

Skype dokusan: Sensei offers weekly dokusan for any Auckland members. This is in addition to the regular Wednesday Skype dokusan for out-of-Auckland Sangha, which will continue. Members can email Sensei to request a dokusan time.

Zoom discussion times: Regular Zoom discussion times are announced in the email update each week.

At all Alert Levels we closely follow the Government guidelines and especially the guidelines for religious communities.
