Women in Buddhism
Wednesday Evenings, 26 July to 6 September, 2006.
(no class on 9 August).

The teachings of Buddhism and their implications for women will be explored in tandem with the
actual history of women’s place in the religion. Guided by New Zealand-born Zen teacher
Sensei Amala Wrightson, students will learn about enlightened women who transcended the limits
of their patriarchal societies, and how Buddhist institutions are changing as more women enter
leadership roles. The course concludes with local women practitioners sharing their struggles
and insights. A brief meditation will begin each class.
