If you do not throw yourself into the breakers, how will you ever meet the one who frolics in the waves?

Update 4 p.m. Thursday 25 March

New Zealand is now at COVID-19 Alert Level 4 and everybody is required to stay home. As a result, the Centre is closed and will remain closed until the alert level is reduced.

Streamed sittings: Sensei and sangha members are continuing to hold all scheduled sittings (separately, each at their own home) and are streaming all sittings on Mixlr. Just click on the Mixlr link at the scheduled time to hear the sitting, or sign up with Mixlr and follow us to be able to chat before or after sittings. Click here to find downloadable PDFs of our chanting services.

Recorded talks: Sensei is continuing to give teishos (talks) regularly on Tuesday nights and we will be recording and uploading these as usual. You can listen to any past teishos here

These are uncertain and unsettling times - we encourage everyone to stay up-to-date, take all necessary action to look after yourself, your families and your community, and as the Prime Minister has said, "be strong, be kind". Staying connected is important as we move into greater physical isolation, so please do not hesitate to get in touch with us by email (info@aucklandzen.org.nz). For more information how the Centre operates at each Alert Level, see our Covid-19 page.
We are planning to offer our workshops on-line until Covid-19 alert levels reduce significantly. More details will follow. Usually our introductory workshops are in a two-part format, and include:
    • detailed instructions on sitting and walking meditation
    • how to establish a daily practice at home
    • developing mindfulness in daily life.
The next pair of workshops are still planned for 2 and 9 May 2020 (both Saturdays). If you wish to participate on-line, please register here

Dharmagear is closed
We make traditional meditation zafus (cushions) and zabutons (mats) here at the Centre. However, we are unable to supply any items at the moment due to the Covid-19 Alert Level requirements.
In 2019 the Auckland Zen Centre declared a Climate Emergency. This declaration is a way of affirming (to each other and to the wider community) that we are committed to the difficult work of facing the current climate crisis, exploring its roots in human greed, fear and denial, and its social and ecological consequences, and then doing what we can to alleviate suffering.

In doing this, we join hundreds of other Buddhist communities, faith groups, councils, cities and nations around the world, in order to serve and live in harmony with our living planet and all its beings as best we can. For more about the declaration and the work we are already doing at the Centre, see our Compassionate Action page.
